GRC’s Catriona Murdoch to participate in an event on ‘Starvation as a crime in armed conflict’ at Utrecht University

GRC’s Senior Legal Consultant, Catriona Murdoch will be speaking alongside Alex de Waal at an afternoon event on ‘Starvation as a crime in armed conflict’ at Utrecht University organised by Ali Aljasem and Mohammad Kanfash in collaboration with the Centre for Conflict Studies of Utrecht University.

 

The event will discuss starvation, its use in non-international armed conflict, the latest developments in the realm of international criminal law and its consequences on the use of starvation as a weapon of war. The event will also reflect on the case of the Syrian conflict, which has witnessed the weaponisation of food, employment of siege, and mass starvation during the conflict.
